What is a perennial coleus?

Most seed generated coleus behave as annuals. Flowering rapidly and then declining. Perennial coleus flower infrequently and are easy to keep year after year as cuttings and stock plants.

Coleus Culture

It must be emphasized that all coleus are tender tropical plants requiring warm temperatures to grow and prosper.  Ideally, night temperature should not fall  below 60°F.  Prolonged chill and freezing will kill coleus.  Day temperatures of 75-80° are best.  The sun tolerant varieties will tolerate higher temperatures with proper attention to watering.  Soil should be light and well drained with uniform moisture.  Only moderate amounts of fertilizer are required.  Too much will be detrimental.  Light should be full and even with protection from full hard sun for the non-sun types.  Experience will be the best teacher.
